For bonus credit ask a friend to come out and see if they can hear you moving in the woods. Use their feedback to improve and take the opportunity to educate them on the role of the militia. If they are interested invite them to training.
In the comments section below, report any steps you took to improve your kit.

  1. Good video helpful . I did spray paint my knife blade . And packed in my kit bag for removing solid waste I’ve never thought about that before .

  2. My little solo stove was rattling when I moved. I found out that I can wrap it in an OD bandanna, putting material between the parts that clanged against each other, to totally silence it. The bandanna will come in handy when using the stove – to clean it, dry it, or to use as a hot pot holder.

There are two types of adjustments your eyes go through to help you with night vision. One is almost instantaneous and involves dilation of your pupils. The other one is more important, and involves chemical changes that take place in your retina. It takes a FULL HOUR for your eyes to make this adjustment. This is the one that allows you see in near complete darkness. Once your eyes have made this adjustment, it is very important not to destroy it by using a white flashlight – not even for an instant. If you do, it will take another hour for it to return. VERY important to know so you can protect your night vision.

Speaking of protecting your night vision, I have red lights and I have green lights. I’m wondering if anyone has knowledge of the advantages disadvantages of each – red as opposed to green?

  3. Wrapped all my loose straps to eliminate snags, Have all items bagged by usage, Tools, fire, water, etc. Each in its own package..Plan to vacuum seal some items such as clothes to save space and items that can rattle are packed between soft items to help eliminate noise. Replaced metal mess kit with a plastic kit to eliminate rattles as well. Also have a red flashlight for night vision. Carry extra bags for trash as to not leave anything behind.
