ORPs are locations along the route to an objective established and shared among each team member and command. The purpose of an ORP is to:

• Provide a known place for members to rally should the unit be split by circumstances.
• A place along a route to be reported to Command so that the upper echelon can monitor progress.

As a unit traverses their route and reach an ORP, that element should report to command. Command will note their location and issue any new orders. The ORP reports are critical should an element need assistance. If contact with an element is lost, a search will begin at the last ORP from which that element last reported.
