During training on 14 February 2015, members in attendance were introduced to armor made by C.A.T.I. Armor. These are curved steel plates made of an alloy that can prevent penetration of small arms fire up to a point. A militia member reported that the armor withstood impacts up to .308 and beyond. The member had the sample with him. The plate had been struck dozens of times and had been flattened from its original curved shape, but the plate was not penetrated until it had been shot with an extremely hot load of large caliber.
A plate carrier and two plates front and back are available for under $200.00, and the militia member reports that the armor is effective and a good value.
